Multi-Pitch Trad: 7. Racking up for the Climb
2m 24s
In this video we review the steps you’ll take when preparing to climb at the base of the route.
RACKING
Slings and Alpine Draws - Decide on whether to carry these over your shoulder or to re-draw them and clip them to your gear loop. Being consistent will aid in efficiency.
Gear Sling vs. Gear Loops - Decide on whether to carry your gear using a gear sling over your shoulder, or on the gear loops of your harness. Gear slings can be either adjustable or fixed length, and allow you another way to carry your gear. Slings are particularly useful when climbing wide cracks or carrying a lot of gear.
CLIMBING
Partner Communication - Make sure you and your partner are on the same page with communication styles. This can be formal or informal, so long as you know what’s what! Please see our video on Partner Communications.
