Multi-Pitch Trad: 14. Finding the Route and Descent
1m 30s
In this video we review the art of finding the route—as well as the descent. Once you’ve done your research and selected which route(s) to climb, use the following procedure to help you identify the route and descent.
1. Starting from the car, or even while hiking on the approach, look at the route. Identify landmarks to help you find the best approach or follow the route. This will help when you are up close and don’t have the benefit of viewing things from afar.
2. While on the approach, occasionally look back to identify features for the descent.
3. If you are still having trouble finding the base of the climb, spend more time at the crag practicing route finding, especially before getting on more complex routes.
