Gym Top Rope Climbing: 3. How to Tie in to your Harness
2m 17s
In this video we review how to correctly tie into your harness as the climber.
Step 1: Create enough rope length with which to tie in. The ideal rope length should measure approximately 1 arm length and across your torso.
Step 2: Tie a figure eight knot as demonstrated in the video above.
Step 3: Thread the end of the rope through the two proper hard points of your harness, starting from the bottom hard point and continuing through the top hard point of your harness, and pull the rope through until the figure eight knot is touching your belay loop.
Step 4: Complete the knot by threading the end of the rope back through your figure eight knot, remembering to follow the existing path along the outside as demonstrated in the video above. Once you’ve tightened the knot, double check that your knot is tied correctly by identifying the 5 pairs of doubled-up rope.
Step 5: Tie off any excess rope so that it is out of your way.
